Hello to all my wonderful watchers
I hope this journal finds you all well. I'm nursing a cold/flu at the moment so it's a good thing this isn't an audio journal as I don't have much of a voice at the moment.
I am going on holidays in a week and a half to Tasmania. Hopefully I can throw this cold/flu before then and capture some amazing scenery to show you all. The main reason for holidaying there is to hopefully witness (and photograph) my first aurora display. So I will have every conceivable body part crossed for some strong solar activity and clear skies during that time. Wish me luck.
My website "Capturing The Night" is taking shape. The front page is live now, with additions like the gallery, blog, and bio coming soon. Check it out here www.capturingthenight.com/
I have also created a page on Facebook for my photography www.facebook.com/CapturingTheN…
Please "like" and spread the word if Facebook is your thing.
Back in May I submitted a few of my images to an astronomy calendar competition and "Rising Tide" (below) was shortlisted for the public vote. After the vote, not only did it win the "Landscape Astrophotography" section and thus get a month in the calendar, it was then selected as the cover image. The calendars will go on sale shortly and I will post a link when they do if you are interested in purchasing one. EDIT: Calendars can now be purchased here shop.iceinspace.com.au/shop/as… if you wish.
I am going to feature one artist this month. Ingo Schobert is a very talented photographer from the United States whose work I first came across from my role in the Naughty By Nature group. The first time I saw one of Ingo's stunning Infrared images I knew I just had to watch him. Ingo was the inspiration for trying some IR shots myself and while my astrophotography has been all consuming lately, I hope to do more very soon.
A small selection of Ingo's great photography....
I'll once again leave with a bit of shameless self promotion.....

Timelapse Video
Hello all
I'm still alive. I know I have not been very active here lately. My daytime work has been ridiculously busy for the past month or so and that wont change for the foreseeable future. Still, could be worse I guess......
Just wanted to pop in briefly to announce that I have completed my first ever timelapse video. If you have followed my work for a while you will know that one of my favorite places to go and image the night sky from is Mt Buffalo near where I live in Australia. I recently put together a collection of timelapse sequences from Mt Buffalo that I have gathered over the past few years. This is my first go at pu
6th Daily Deviation and why I might leave DA
Hello all,
Finally have a little bit of time to catch up on all things DA. It was a great surprise to receive my 6th Daily Deviation a couple of weeks ago for my image "Before The Storm"
I once again must give a huge  and a big THANK YOU to the legendary Nancy `Anoya (https://www.deviantart.com/anoya) for featuring the image and an equally big thanks to :iconRazielMB: for suggesting it.
On a sour note, I am so disappointed in how DA displayed my last image "Burning The Midnight Oil" that I am thinking about leaving here for good. For someone who almost shoots exclusively night time images where subtle shadow detail is important for the overall feel of the
5th Daily Deviation and Interviews
Hello all
After basically pulling an all nighter last night taking images and conducting a night sky photography workshop, I woke up at lunchtime today to discover a very pleasant surprise. I have been awarded my 5th Daily Deviation for my image "Taste The Rainbow"
Huge thanks must go to ~Laurelin-CosPlay (https://www.deviantart.com/laurelin-cosplay) for suggesting the image and the legendary Nancy :iconAnoya: for featuring it as a DD
It is quite surprising to me how much this image has been accepted by the public, both on here and elsewhere on the net. For a long time I hesitated to even upload it as I thought it was just another standard "Milkyway Bow" image that are a

Also, Whilst I have you. The Light Inspired Group %LightInspired (https://www.deviantart.com/lightinspired) through its sister group :iconPhoto-Contest: is holding another Nature Photo Contest which starts in a couple of weeks time. I will once again be on the judging panel and there are some amazing software packages up for grabs as prizes. You hav
