Trial Bay, Tasmania. AUS

My one and only nightsky scape from my recent trip to Tasmania and about the only time I saw the stars. It was either raining or just cloudy for most of the time. About half an hour after I did this shoot the clouds rolled back in. The faint bands and patches in the sky are from thin cloud so even for this shot I didn't have completely clear skies. Crescent moon just off to the top right of frame is lighting up the landscape.
I had a star trail shoot in progress before I did this but after only 15 minutes or so a couple of guys came down the road to launch their boat and seeing as I was setup in the water at the end of the boat ramp I had to move.

Same location just a couple of hours earlier.....

I sez the one who gets there first has the right of way  Maybe you need a convincer to keep your chosen spots--something small like a Howitzer to remove fisherman's desire to launch boats there :icontatataplz:

Anyway, it's a great image Greg even if you had to move

I was just out trying to get some shots like this last night :XD: They all look so different, I still need to work on my settings obviously, but I just wanted you to know when I night shoot, my goal is to hit "Greg Gibbs Quality" have yet to come close, but I am improving
What is your method for getting the focus correct?

Still a magnificent shot, despite the obstacles and annoyances, Greg. My buddy and I got booted away from our favourite dark site by two car loads of young people who were going to camp there for the night. But we really must look harder for a site that permits terestrial foreground interest, as you so often illustrate.

Thank you :D You can see the Milky Way as a faint band running across the night sky from my dark sky location. The long exposure brings out the colour and detail.
