Five panel vertical panorama. The central bulge of the Milky Way is almost directly overhead at this point. Light from a setting quarter moon lights up the landscape.

Another one from the same night....

The thing I love about pictures like this is that it really gives a perspective of where we reside in comparison to the galactic center. The Milky Way gets so muted in the 'States because of all the light pollution that the connection of being off of a spiral arm that rotating around that seems a lot more abstract.

May i ask, how you make those pictures, long exposure draws trails over sky, do you have some tracking tripod head?

Read this [link] While, yes, I do own a tracking telescope mount I can assure you that this is done with just a camera and standard tripod. I use the tracking mount for my deep space photography, not my nightsky scapes.

Wonderful and amazing shot if you don't mind me asking where was this taken (not like gps coordinates or anything) just been thinking about going on a trip to do something like this for a while and trying to get ideas.

Thank you :D It would need to be one very big trip Cris. This was taken near my house in Australia. Best advice I can give you is get as far away from light pollution as you possibly can. The nearest town to me for this shot was over 30 miles away.
