Reach Out And Touch The Sky by CapturingTheNight Reach Out And Touch The Sky by CapturingTheNight

A crescent Moon and Venus framed by the Milky Way.
9th of October, 2013.
Canon 5DMkII, 14mm, F/2.8, ISO 1600, 30 seconds, 10 image panorama.

Apologies for the lack of new images from me in recent weeks. I have had a few minor health issues lately and I have been going backwards and forwards to the doctors three times a week. So unfortunately the locations and images I had planned to shoot have had to be postponed for a while. Good news is I am on the mend and weather permitting I will soon be back out showing you all the beauty of the night sky that surrounds us all.

Magnificent, as if it was taken from a SF movie;
love the direction of the light, the creation of a stunning contrast as well as the composition! Cheers

Thank you so much :D Yes, it is a real place and everything you see in the image is real, but the long exposure of the camera brings out more detail and colour.

Wow this is amazing !! Is the photography modified ? I talk about the two big stars (in the center). I never see the sky with these two stars and in a first time I thought about a manipulated photography ! ^^

Thanks :D No this is not modified.  The two big "stars" are The Moon and the planet Venus.  Taken the night previous: capturingthenight.deviantart.c…

The "cluster" on the left is the Large Magellanic Cloud, which (along with the Small Magellanic Cloud) are dwarf satellite Galaxies of our own Milky Way Galaxy.  The Small Magellanic Cloud is also visible in this picture above the LMC but it is a bit fainter and smaller.  They are only visible from the southern hemisphere.

An absolutely stunning arc of stars!  The eye easily jumps over the moon into the setting sun guided by the two prominent tree silhouettes.  A soothing palette of blues, greens, and violets.  Interesting broken bits of tree and rocks.  A well balanced photo.

I'm glad you're on the mend (I'm a lot behind in my message center.  As far as I know you're completely well with no ill side effects from the electric shock therapy and the Lithium treatments seem to be working!)

:devilish:

Actually and seriously--this is a cracker of a panorama, Greg :highfive:  Well done!
