Ever wish that you could lookout like this on a clear night and see the sky packed full of stars?

Less than a third of the worldwide population and 1% of the continental USA population lives under truly, unpolluted from light, starry skies. Do you?

I am pleased to announce that I am teaming up with the International Dark Sky Association to help raise awareness of the importance of dark skies. To find out how you can take some simple steps towards reconnecting with the night sky, please visit [link] and/or follow them here on Facebook: [link]

Please share to help spread the word. Thanks.

Thank you very much :D Yes I can understand just how light effected the east coast is. I hope you can find some truly dark skies again sometime in the future.

I'm in the 1% :iconwoohooplz: Though I have to drive 25-30 miles out of town to experience it. Excellent work, Greg

Awesome photo! :highfive:

Plenty of dark skies out this way but, I wonder is there a cloud co-operation society when you need those truly clear skies during important astro events? I just might have to start one of those.

Best of luck with it!

It's only every day that I wish I can see the stars clearly in the night. X3 It's a picture, but it's also a favor to those who don't have the opportunity to appreciate a clear night sky. Thanks, you have just made my day!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Flagstaff, Arizona is the world's first International Dark Sky City! Also, I'm from Flagstaff, Arizona!

Makes you wonder if losing the night sky is the reason there is so much trouble around the world. Glad I STILL have a +6.4 sky at my location.

Could well be. Out of curiousity how/where did you come up with your +6.4 figure. Wouldn't mind working out my number....

I've been a sky watcher from my location for over 35 yrs. So, what's the very faintest stars you can see with your dark-adapted naked eye under your sky? I picked out a few (from Star Atlas 2000), and then looked them up in Sky Catalog 2000. Here, I often can make out the star 3 Ursa Minoris, magnitude +6.4, but under a big Canadian (Arctic high pressure) and no moon, I have on occasion detected fainter ones, to mag. +6.9. However, light pollution is encroaching even about my area. Those faintest stars usually have SAO or HD numbers too. This is called your sky's limiting magnitude, but it can vary according to your weather even during a night or your eyes.

Ah, OK. Thanks for that. I will have to grab work out my sky's limiting magnitude. I suspect it would be very similar to yours.
