Not sure if I like this image or not. Taken in a big rush two nights ago as a weak aurora display reached my location. Shot only minutes before the moon rose on the horizon washing out the faint aurora display. You can see that the Milky Way has already started to be washed out from the light of the moon. I didn't have time to find a better composition. The tree in the middle of frame is blocking some of the light pollution from a city about 100 km away.

Would love any and all feedback.

thank you very much your blog articles helped me a lot to understand night shooting and start gazing :) just one question can we take pictures with camera dmk41 without expensive lenses?? or telescopes.
what would be the result then. Sorry if I bother you, actually I'm so crazy for photography but limited resources :) Currently I got chance to use Olympus E500 with basic two lenses 14-40mm & 40-150mm.
I wish to get maximum out of it. Your photography is stunning.

The Dmk41 camera is a monochrome video camera designed for imaging through a telescope. Commonly used to take images of bright space objects like planets, The Moon and with a properly filtered telescope, The Sun. It is no good for fainter deep space things or widefiled images like the one above.

oh thanks for the guidance. It is so helpful for me. I have Olympus E500 with lenses 14-40 and 40-150, I have tried but my problem is lux pollution in my city and around. the nearest desert is around 12 hours away from my city. Even my home village got electricity now and I remember those old days without electricity in my village when I could observe the milky way and billions of stars.

I love the aurora and the softness of the sky. It does feel like it's lacking something, but I can't put my finger on it.

I love the effect and the thought of the Moon rising taking the darkness and bringing beautiful light to the sky,
the tree has the same concept as the rising moon, or visa versa, as if feels looks like it is lowering to bring the
night,....There is nothing not to like about this photos, Its beautiful,

I will agree with you on this, I don't like it as much as your other works. I do really like the colours, but the tree is too small; feels like the tree should either be bigger or not there at all. Also the milky way is too washed out, just makes it look like a sea of stars...which is all I see in my night sky. It's still pretty, but not as powerful as your other pieces.

I do quite like this one Greg, I find the fact that the orange light seems to emanate from behind the trees to be an interesting and attractive effect. The bit of lit up land in the left background is also very nice as it gives a nice depth to the landscape. I also want to say that it's very nice of you to give so much of what you do for others to help them along in their owns efforts.

Greg, the pastel colors are gorgeous. While it might not be quite as dramatic as some of your other works, this one has a gentle touch because of the color palette while the contrast of the silhouette is still sharp and clear. Oddly enough, I might suggest that you play with the cropping a bit to hone in more on that lovely color. Normally I wouldn't suggest that but for some reason I think it might work here. Just a suggestion to try . . . but it stands up to scrutiny as it is. Well done!

Thank you so much for that great feedback :D I really appreciate it. I know what you mean about the framing of the shot. Those Magellanic Clouds do seem a bit lost up in the top left. I think the thing that bothers me most about it is the tree smack bang in the middle of frame, but as I mentioned, I didn't have time to chase a different composition as the moon rose literally seconds after I took this shot.

So crystal clear, and the silhouettes are very nice. I really like the splash of color got around the lonely tree :wow:
