Aurora Australis. Mount Buffalo National Park, Australia. 17th of March 2013

With predictions of a fairly strong geomagnetic storm due to strike the Earth, I packed up my camera gear and headed to one of my favorite locations. Without mobile reception up there I had no idea what the aurora numbers were doing so all I could do was get setup and wait until it got dark.

This is the first time I have been able to see an aurora with my own eyes. Watching the rays and arcs flow across the sky was amazing. I have hundreds and hundreds of images from this wonderful night to go through. A crescent moon off to the right of frame helped light up the landscape during this single exposure.

Okay, don't mind me- I'm just going on a favoring spree of your Aurora Australis stuff.

One of my favorite things in the world are stars and the colors of the sky; so yes, this stuff is really getting to me feelings-wise. I cannot help scrolling through each one and staring at them for a few seconds.

how do you do the voodoo that you do? (ie: lens, camera, exposures, etc.) I'm trying to get into long exposures and would LOVE some advice!
